  • Teatro Cuyás Calle Viera y Clavijo Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, CN, 35002 Spain (map)

Dunas is, of course, inspired by dunes, sand, its grains and its capacity for metamorphosis. In honor of their mutual admiration for each other flamenco dancer María Pagés and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui decided to share the stage and create a common universe. Sand, the desert, dunes and their personal heritage became the pillars of Dunas.  Within a set created of veils and fabric, they play with shadows and draw on each other. They use the rhythm of their feet to find a common pulse.
Teaming up with musicians from Spain, Morocco and Poland, with touches of flamenco and original compositions of Szymon Brzóska and Rubén Lebaniegos, the music represents the roots of both choreographers. Free of any narrative, the performance is a journey to discover the poetry between Pagés and Cherkaoui.
